We’re celebrating the Earth all month long -- are you looking for ways to live more sustainably? While last week we mentioned brands that use sustainable packaging, this week we’re focusing on five of the simplest items to swap out for eco-friendly solutions. With a list of products that you would find in different areas of your house, you’re sure to find at least one item that you’re excited to try! And remember, investing in sustainable products means that we’re doing our best to use items that benefit our planet.

1. UNNI | Compostable Trash Bags

Have you ever thought about the number of trash bags you use in a year? I’m guessing that it’s a lot considering how much waste an individual accumulates over time. UNNI trash bags are 100% compostable and made from corn. You can even compost them at home if you’d like. If you’re looking for a way to ease into living sustainably, we recommend trying out compostable trash bags. You’ll realize they do the same job but are better for the environment -- and in turn, you.

2. Life Without Plastic | Toothbrush

Are you looking to cut down on your plastic waste? Well, here’s a great place to start — sustainable toothbrushes! Life Without Plastic offers up a great alternative to your typical planet-harming plastic toothbrush. It’s made of sustainably harvested wood for the handle and thoroughly disinfected boar hair for the bristles. While other “eco-friendly” toothbrushes may have bristles that are not environmentally conscious, because of the materials used for a Life Without Plastic toothbrush, the entire thing is 100% compostable. Get started on your sustainable journey and make this simple swap!

3. Cleancult | Laundry Detergent

Cleancult offers an earth-friendly laundry detergent. Its formula is non-toxic and biodegradable which is better for the environment including our water sources. If you’re wondering how it works, all you have to do is buy a reusable laundry detergent bottle and purchase the Cleancult refillable carton whenever you finish your laundry detergent. You can then either choose to leave your 100% recycled laundry carton at your local recycling center, or you can opt to send your empty cartons back to Cleancult to take care of them. With scents like Juniper & Sandalwood, Sea Spray & Aloe and Sweet Honeysuckle (or even the fragrance-free option) you’re sure to find a scent you like no matter your preference. What’s not to love?

4. Rocketbook | Notebooks

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I feel guilty whenever I buy new notebooks for school or work knowing that they’re single-use and killing many trees. So, what if I told you there’s a new product that erases that worry? Rocketbook utilizes technology to allow for a notebook that you can still write in by hand, but that documents your notes virtually. If you’re someone that enjoys writing out notes by hand, but also likes to stay organized Rocketbook offers a key at the bottom that you can easily mark to sort your notes. And as mentioned on the Rocketbook website, the average tree produces 10,000 sheets of paper which are about 100 standard 1-subject notebooks. The Rocketbook is a simple eco-friendly swap for your everyday notebook.

5. Ecotools | Biodegradable Makeup Sponge

While Ecotools offers a range of makeup tools for a clean planet, the bioblender is a 100% biodegradable makeup sponge. The bioblender is notorious for its smooth makeup application while also being eco-friendly. Once you’re done with your bioblender makeup sponge, just plant it within your home compost environment and voila — it’ll decompose naturally. Even the packaging for this product is biodegradable! So, if you’re in the market for a new makeup sponge, opt for the bioblender. And, if that doesn’t have you sold, it’s also vegan, cruelty-free and meets fair labor standards.
