Nonprofits: Marketing Resources

Welcome conscious business friends! If you’re reading this post, get excited as we’re about to share some exciting resources companies have made available to improve the world – via your nonprofit business! We admire your work to integrate sustainable and ethical practices into every aspect of your operations but many businesses are still set on a model of “giving back” rather than “giving through all”. Fortunately, in this case, giving back will pay it forward for all good through your sustainable practices.

Whether your nonprofit is working to change the world, improve the lives of others or simply maintain necessary resource supplies, you want to use every tool available to your marketing team. The more people know what you are doing, the more they will want to help. Here are some ways to step up your marketing and PR efforts.

Start With Google

Google wants to help organizations share their mission through Google for Nonprofits and generously makes their services financially accessible. Check out these services:

  1. Google Workspace: Access Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Drive, Docs, Forms and more in a nonprofit plan starting at $0/month. You’ll be able to set up professional email addresses with your organization’s domain and even have up to 100 people in video meetings. Our team at The Good Camp loves GSuite and beyond the base plan, you’ll also get discounts on upgraded plans with your nonprofit status.

  2. Google Earth and Maps: With these resources, you can visually track and share the work and impact your nonprofit is making. Nonprofits receive credits from Google for Nonprofits – which provides the Google Maps Platform – and helps people in local communities connect with resources closest to them.

  3. Google Ad Grants: Whether you’re using social media ads or Google Ads already, this is an extremely important way to spread your message through digital channels. Your audience is online and Google will help you to connect with them. Every month, Ad Grants offers up to $10,000 of in-kind advertising to create text-based ads which you can associate with keywords you select. You’ll see these on Google Search, can track your efforts and will drive more web traffic.

  4. YouTube Nonprofit Program: The YouTube Nonprofit Program will help your business gain access to important features like YouTube Giving, Creator Academy nonprofit lessons and shooting videos at YouTube’s global creator studios. With your account, you can link your supporter to your causes and content through videos and fund-raise effectively.

Operational Excellence

Google offers a great starting point for your nonprofit’s organization and marketing efforts, but here are a few additional tools to round out your operations.

Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP): The NPSP was developed by, and built for, the nonprofit community. It is free and open-source. From CRM leader Salesforce, this platform offers a way to manage your relationships and many different programs through the Nonprofit Cloud, to organize and monitor donations and income and to report and analyze your fundraising campaigns. Most importantly your team will feel empowered by clearly seeing the work you’re doing and the impact you’re making.

Slack for Nonprofits: Slack helps coordinate your business team through channel-based messaging. This allows you to connect other business tools and services and work on projects together more productively. As you’ll see on Slack’s app directory, you can even connect your nonprofit G Suite and Salesforce! Slack is only free for small teams, but nonprofits are eligible for up to an 85% discount on Standard and Plus plans for larger organizations. Communicate in a secure environment and accomplish more for those you’re serving with Slack.

LinkedIn for Nonprofits: Utilize the professional network on LinkedIn to expand your team, attract donors and volunteers, fund-raise and learn new skills. LinkedIn provides guides for nonprofits, case studies and a blog with cutting-edge information.

Canva for Nonprofits: Canva is a leading design tool that allows users to create social media graphics, slides, logos and other marketing materials through its online design studio. While the base version of Canva is free, as a nonprofit organization you can apply to get premium features for free such as additional templates, photos, icons and more. Canva makes it easy to organize your team’s designs and with the premium Magic Resize you can prepare a graphic for multiple channels easily. You do so much to make the world better, let Canva help you create designs to do more.

Keyword Research

Search engine optimization (SEO) is essential for your content to show up in search results today whether on the web or social media apps. Algorithms search through your text, photos, titles and code to assure searchers are being connected with what they are looking for. There are a variety of free tools for keyword research available but as a nonprofit, you also will receive discounts on some paid versions. Here are some keyword tools to consider:

  • Keyword Tool: The base version of this tool is free and will provide up to 750 terms. You can look across different search engines or even look for terms included in questions or prepositions. However, you’ll need to upgrade to the Pro tool for metrics like search volume, CPC and competition.

  • Ahrefs’ Keyword Generator: This tool will allow you to search keywords for free but will only show basic metrics like volume and Keyword Difficulty. It provides information on Google, Bing, YouTube and Amazon but also requires an upgrade to unlock all features.

  • Moz Nonprofit Subscription: Moz offers a 75% discount on Moz Pro subscriptions for approved nonprofits and a 30-day free trial to all who start using their services. Research keywords, build links, conduct site insights and optimize your pages through the complete tool set.
