Global Goodness

Your journey to a conscious lifestyle includes many components with a focus on supporting a better world. A great way to promote this is to encourage support of various charities since they focus on social concerns. This month so far we’ve featured two charities, 1% for the planet and charity: water. This week, I’m describing another one of my favorite charities -- The Humane Society of the United States. This charity does an amazing job advocating for animals and animal rights.

Protecting Animals

This nonprofit organization’s mission is “to create a more humane society” for animals. The Humane Society of the United States has been protecting animals since 1954 through advocacy, education and hands-on programs.

Advocating for Animals

Animals cannot advocate for themselves, so that’s where you come in. There are many different topics to aid in the betterment of animal lives. The Humane Society of the United States has many categories on its website such as: banning trophy hunting, ending cosmetics animal testing, going fur-free, improving the lives of farm animals and stopping puppy mills. If any of these topics pique your interest, jump over to the Humane Society of the United States website for more information on how to help.

Get Involved

Fighting for animal welfare has a great effect on animals’ quality of life. There are a few different ways to get involved with the Humane Society of the United States:

  1. Donate money

  2. Volunteer your time

  3. Donate your car for auction

All three of these options help the Humane Society of the United States thrive and assist as many animals as possible.

The Numbers

The education programs train animal advocates. Looking for the numbers?

The Humane Society of the United States has trained:

  • 200 veterinary students

  • 4,000 officers about recognizing animal cruelty and neglect

  • 10,000 food-service professionals on how to make plant-based meals

Improve the World

Despite the fact that the Humane Society of the United States has been around for more than half a century, this organization still has so much more to fight for. If you’re looking for a way to impact animal lives in a huge way, animal welfare organizations are the way to go. Help improve the world by supporting charities like the Humane Society of the United States!

Cat Cafe Lounge

Another way to aid in the fight for animal welfare is by volunteering your time at your local Humane Society or other organization and assisting in the adoption of animals. Cat Cafe Lounge’s mission is to reduce euthanizations by increasing adoptions while socializing cats. The Good Camp had the great opportunity to help raise awareness and money for Cat Cafe Lounge in LA, raising over $20,000! In addition, the Good Camp fundraises for another great cause called charity:water (learn more here). Donate today to give the gift of clean water.
